Empty Enough
Somehow I always hear
whatever it is my spirit needs to hear.
It could be the scraps of a conversation,
The readings of the day,
Or stumbling on a poem.
Somehow what I need always finds me
Because I find that
If you are silent enough
you will hear the ripples
And murmurs of the universe.
And if you collect the scraps and pieces,
Take them with you ,
Sew them up, they will keep you warm.
If you are cold enough
you will be grateful for the three
Tea packets in your pantry
Because that is all you need.
If you are empty enough
You will take what you are given
Collection of spices,
Scraps and pieces,
Or useless devices.
And somehow and for whatever reason
It is exactly what your spirit needs.
